Description

Updated in 2017 to reflect the latest legislation pertaining to the practice of physical therapy in Georgia, this course provides participants with a review of the laws, rules and policies governing the practice of physical therapy in Georgia, as well as an overview of other relevant Georgia laws that may impact physical therapy practice. Course participants are instructed in how to navigate the associated websites to allow future access of the information.

The course was designed to be in compliance with the requirements for a jurisprudence continuing competency course as identified by the Georgia State Board of Physical Therapy. This course is meant to be paired with Georgia Ethics for Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants to meet the minimum requirements for continued competence in ethics and jurisprudence.

Goals & Objectives:

At the completion of this lecture, the learner will be able to:

  1. Navigate the Georgia Secretary of State and State Board of Physical Therapy websites to locate laws, rules and policies relevant to physical therapy practice.
  2. Locate information essential for licensing and/or relicensing.
  3. Discuss the Georgia General Provisions (Title 43, Chapter 1) associated with physical therapy practice.
  4. Apply the laws and rules (Title 43, Chapters 33 and 490) governing physical therapy practice in Georgia.
  5. Discuss the policies of the Board.
  6. Identify how to locate any recent law, rule or Board policy changes.
  7. Respond to scenarios related to the information from the course.
